Port Townsend...a taste around town

It's been said that Port Townsend is foodie heaven. With the Jefferson County Farmers Market running Wednesdays April-September and Saturdays from April-December you could spend hours for six months out of the year visiting with the vendors as they get caught up talking about their wares, produce, arts, and farms.

We visited in October at prime pumpkin time. Come early and plan to spend the day. There is plenty to eat and drink on-site. Located uptown PT the market features local farmers, artisans, arts and crafts, and nonprofits.

A moving feast for the eyes, you will be delighted to find more colorful root vegetables than you can name, homegrown berries, organic hard ciders and vinegar, lavender, honey, spices, jams and jellies, Cape Cleare salmon, cage-free eggs, flowers the size of saucers, homemade goat's cheeses, artisan breads, coffee and chocolate. Whew! My first day and I was intoxicated with the colors, the aromas, and the people.

And if you are lucky--music to serenade your shopping experience. Peruse the handcrafted pottery, locally sourced lambs wool felted wearables, hand carved wooden bowls, handmade soaps and scented oils, handcrafted copper enamel, bentwood and Adirondack chairs, and fine paintings and photography of local landmarks and the Pacific Northwest.

On our first visit to Port Townsend friends introduced us to some of the freshest food and fine wines at downtown eateries. We were treated to a Friday night tasting event at Joe Euro's The Wine Seller - the small town wine shop with the big city collection.  We visited during an Italian sampling featuring a variety of whites and reds personally picked by Joe himself accompanied by breads and soft and hard cheeses. A nice segue to dinner at The Fountain Cafe.
